Artificial nail fixing is luxury beauty service – Nail Technician

Miss Deborah Naa Aku Allotey, a Nail Technician in Tema Community One, has revealed that fixing artificial nails is a luxury beauty service that is dynamic.

Miss Allotey told the Ghana News Agency that artificial nails, even though small and intricate, enhanced the beauty and confidence level of women.

She noted that well-kept nails lasted longer than other beauty add-ons like wigs, make-up, and artificial lashes.

“Nails are not cheap; if you really want to get a well-fixed, attractive nail, you will pay at least GH¢100; some even charge as high as GH¢800 to fix your nail,” she disclosed.

She noted that the current artificial nail market was filled with an exciting array of choices to satisfy every aesthetic desire, mentioning some of the types as acrylic, gel nails, dip power nails, and press on.

She explained that acrylic nails were well known for their durability and versatility, adding that the acrylic nails were created by mixing a liquid monomer with a powdered polymer to be molded into a hard protective layer.

She said they were perfect for clients who wanted long-lasting, sturdy nails, as they could last for months and required less maintenance.

The nail technician further stated that gel nails gave a more natural look as they offered a glossy, smooth, and flexible finish due to the application of ultraviolet (UV) on them.

She stated that the dip powder nails involved dipping nails into a coloured powder and sealing it with a clear protective polish, providing a long-lasting, non-damaging option, while press-on nails were pre-designed in a variety of styles, colours, and shapes, appealing to clients who want a quick change with minimal commitment.

Touching on nail trends, she disclosed that the youth mostly patronised artificial nails, with some trend shapes being the stiletto, almond, square, oval, coffin, and lipsticks, among others.

Providing some tips for choosing the right shape, she said the occasion must be considered, adding that a bride could choose between a square tip or almond shape, explaining that while the square went with every occasion, the almond portrayed elegance.

She, however, advised against having artificial nails on all the time due to the chemicals used in fixing them, as they could have some effects on the nails and skin, especially in those who might have allergies, including contact dermatitis.

“It is not recommended to have artificial nails on all the time; sometimes your nails must breathe because of the chemicals used to fix the artificial,” she added.

She advised the public to keep clean well-shaped nails not only for beauty but also to prevent them from harbouring bacteria.
