Professor Baffour Agyeman-Duah, a former UN senior governance advisor has advised the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress to accept the challenge to debate his main opponent Mahamudu Bawumia.
The presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia has said his main opponent John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is running away from debating him for fear of being exposed.
In an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (12 July), Agyeman-Duah said debates are useful exercises that help to assess candidates and could influence the voting pattern of potential voters.
“The NDC does not seem to think that debate will add anything to their plans, but I think it is a useful exercise and I will advise them to accept it.”
“I suspect that because there are new ways of getting to the voter, the NDC does not see a debate necessary. A debate can change a lot of people’s minds, so I think they should accept it,” Agyeman-Duah said.
