Motorists utilising the Agape Road in the Ga Central Municipality are anticipating relief as construction work on the deteriorating road has commenced.
This development comes in response to numerous protests by Agape residents demanding road repairs.
The Agape Road, which extends from Baah Yard to Ablekuma Road, is in a deplorable state from Pentecost Junction to Gbawe. This road, used daily by hundreds of vehicles, prompted a large-scale demonstration by Agape residents in December 2021, urging the government to address the issue.
Currently, construction work on the road is underway. Contractors have resumed the construction of drains, a project previously halted under the NDC government.
While motorists and Agape residents are pleased with the road repairs, they are eager for the work to be completed.
Rev Charles Koomson, Chairman of the Agape Top Landlords Association, insists that road construction should not be limited to election years and should continue beyond the 2024 general elections.
Joseph Abbey, the Assembly Member for the Agape Pentecost Electoral Area, views the government’s decision to repair the road as a positive step, echoing the residents’ desire for a fixed road.
Ambrose Edward Tsegah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ga Central, assures that the government is dedicated to completing the Agape road repairs within six months.
