Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum has concluded her second daring attempt to set a Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest singing marathon by an individual, clocking an impressive 121 hours and 39 minutes.
The marathon took place at Heroes’ Park, Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, beginning at dawn on 21 December and ending on 25 December.
In a stunning display of endurance and cultural pride, the tenacious singer sang more than 200 Ghanaian songs in the genres of hiplife, afrobeat, highlife, and gospel.
Speaking after the event, Afua Asantewaa expressed her satisfaction with the feat. “I want to again say I am fulfilled; considering the fact that I succeeded in promoting Ghanaian songs,” she said.
She acknowledged her dedicated team, saying, “Of course my team comprising Gladys Osei Owiredu (manager), Kofi Owusu Aduonum (Head of PR), Fredrick Fosu, Kelvin Abban (Creatives) and Isaac Amponsah (Operations).”
This marks her second attempt at the record, following a 2023 effort that fell short of surpassing the existing record of 105 hours set by India’s Sunil Waghmare. Undeterred by her previous setback, Afua Asantewaa remains optimistic about the final outcome of this attempt.
Path to verification
In the coming days, Afua Asantewaa and her team will submit comprehensive evidence of her performance to the Guinness World Records for review. The organisation will assess her attempt to determine if it qualifies for the title.
