The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) performance in the recent parliamentary elections in the Asuogyaman constituency has sparked significant controversy, with the party’s women’s organizer, Madam Juliana Akusika Nkegbe, directly blaming Pius Enam Hadzide for their defeat.
Her sharp criticism centers on allegations of division and manipulation, which she claims undermined the party’s unity and cost them the election.
Speaking in a statement about the issues that led to the NPP’s loss, Madam Nkegbe accused Mr Hadzide of orchestrating actions that fractured the party’s cohesion during the primaries.
She alleged that he brought in individuals from North Tongu and North Dayi to manipulate the electoral register, with assistance from the North Tongu women’s organizer.
According to her, this sidelined the Asuogyaman executives and bred resentment among local stakeholders, creating cracks within the party’s foundation.
“Pius Hadzide is the reason we lost,” she said emphatically, expressing deep frustration. “It was as though we didn’t exist.”
She added that by disregarding the majority of the constituency executives, Mr. Hadzide entered the elections with a divided front, a strategy she believes alienated key stakeholders and significantly contributed to the party’s loss.
In the recent contest, the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, secured a decisive victory, garnering 26,085 votes, representing 55.06%. Mr. Hadzide, the NPP’s candidate, trailed with 21,290 votes, amounting to 44.94%.
