The Executive Director of the African Center for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), Dr. Rasheed Draman has expressed his concerns about the state of Ghana’s Eighth Parliament, revealing an underlying weakness within the current majority.
In an interview on Starr Today with host Efia Tutuwaa Danso, Dr. Draman described the situation in metaphorical terms, saying, “Well, I mean, it doesn’t need to look like that.
That may be a small goat frightening a big lion to some kind of level of submission.” His words suggested that the seeming dominance of the majority may not be as strong as it appears, hinting at deeper vulnerabilities within the legislature.
Reflecting on the earlier years of the current parliamentary term, Dr. Draman pointed out that for four years, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lacked representation in the House.
“In the Eighth Parliament, we didn’t have members; we didn’t have representation in the House for four good years.
NDC sat quietly and very timid about this,” he noted. This absence of vocal opposition during such a critical period raised important questions about the NDC’s role and the overall balance of power within Parliament.
