2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers: We have to defend better late in games - Black Stars coach Otto Addo
Ghana head coach Otto Addo has stressed the need for improved late-game defending after the Black Stars drew 1-1 with Niger in their second 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.Ghana took the lead in the 44th minute with a goal from defender Alidu Seidu but conceded a late equalizer in the 81st minute from defender Oumar Sako. This result was disappointing for Addo, who noted that it marks the second consecutive match in which the team has dropped points due to late goals. In their previous match, the Black Stars suffered a 1-0 defeat against Angola, with Felicio Milson scoring in stoppage time to seal Ghana's fate at the Baba Yara Stadium.Following the Niger game, Addo expressed frustration in a press conference, emphasizing the need for his players to learn from their mistakes.“Very very disappointed the way we allow our goals. We had a quite cheap goal against Angola and now again this. Just really really disappointed and we have to be on our toes to defend these situations better.”
