ECG Managing Director, Samuel Dubik Mahama, Officially Resigns

Samuel Dubik Mahama, the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has officially resigned, as confirmed by Citi News. In a resignation letter addressed to the Board Chairman of ECG, Mr. Mahama cited personal reasons for stepping down from his role.

“I am writing to formally resign from my position as Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, effective two weeks from the above date. The decision has not come easily, but after much reflection, I have concluded that it is in my best interest to step away for personal reasons,” the letter stated.

He went on to express his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the position, noting the honour of leading the organization over the past two years and four months. “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Board for your unwavering support and guidance throughout my tenure. I also wish to express my sincere gratitude to the President for the trust placed in me, which has been a significant aspect of my journey here.”

Mr. Mahama’s resignation has come as a surprise to many within Ghana’s energy sector, particularly given his relatively short time in office. He was appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and officially assumed his duties as Managing Director on May 16, 2022.

Prior to becoming Managing Director, Mahama served as a non-executive director at ECG, bringing with him a wealth of experience from both the private and public sectors. He had previously held positions such as non-executive director at GIHOC Distilleries and country representative for Gulfsouth Forest.

While the resignation has left many speculating about the reasons behind his decision, neither ECG nor government sources have provided further details on the matter. Mr. Mahama’s departure leaves a gap in the leadership of one of Ghana's most critical utilities, and the sector will be watching closely for further developments.
