The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has announced that the assessment of Ghana’s recently acquired train, involved in an accident on Thursday, will commence on Friday (April 18).

According to GRDA, the initial assessment indicates that the damage to the train is minor.

Police authorities have arrested the driver of a Hyundai truck with registration number GS 9018 – 20, allegedly responsible for the accident involving a Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line on Thursday (April 18). Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver abandoned the vehicle on the railway line, leading to a collision with the train.

In an interview with Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (April 19), the CEO of GRDA, Yaw Owusu, provided updates on the situation.

“The good news is that the train can be repaired here in Ghana; there is no need to take it to Poland.” Owusu also mentioned, “We are going to assess the level of damage to know how long it will take to repair the train,” he said.
