Yagbonwura Honors Bawumia for contributions to the Jakpa Palace

His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, has awarded a citation to Ghana’s Vice President and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the upcoming December 7 elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

This honor recognizes the Vice President’s outstanding contributions towards the development and enhancement of Jakpa Palace, the traditional seat of the Gonja Kingdom.

The citation commended the Vice President for his unwavering dedication and support to the Palace, emphasizing how his efforts have positively impacted the community.

Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I was installed as the new Overlord of Gonja Land in 2023 during a vibrant and colorful traditional ceremony held at the forecourt of Jakpa Palace in Damongo, located within the West Gonja municipality of the Savannah Region.

His enskinment, the traditional process of crowning a new ruler, was carried out successfully with customary rites at Nyange, the ancient traditional seat of the Gonja Kingdom.

The event marked a significant moment in the history of the Gonja people, as they welcomed their new king and guardian of their traditions.

The citation reads “This citation is awarded to you, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in recognition of your outstanding contributions towards Jakpa Palace”
