Why Oliver Barker-Vormawor doesn’t stand a chance for bail  – Lawyer Kwame Adofo

Private legal practitioner, Lawyer Kwame Adofo has disclosed that arrested protester Oliver Barker Vormawor’s situation is very serious and might not get bail.

During an interview on Onua FM, the lawyer stated that according to the law, if someone commits another offence while on bail, they are not eligible for bail again.

It would be recalled that Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has been granted bail to the tune of GH¢30,000 by the Madina District Court where he was arraigned for a road traffic offence two years ago.

The FixTheCountry convener was arrested at the East Legon tunnel in Accra as part of an operation by the police to control traffic which led to the arrest of drivers of other prominent personalities.

Mr. Barker-Vormawor also has a case in court in which he’s standing trial for allegedly threatening a coup should the government implement the controversial E-levy.

The court granted him bail on March 16, 2022, with the bail conditions set at GH¢2 million with 2 sureties.

Lawyer Adofo said that Oliver Vormawor has been charged with treason and which is not classified as a misdemeanor but a second-degree felony and could be sentenced to 25 years in prison. “He is already on bail after he was charged with a treasonable offence. The law says that when you are on bail and you commit another offence, you are not

entitled to be bailed anymore. Oliver Barker-Vormawor’s situation is more severe because no judge can even give him bail. The law is absolutely clear. If the others can be granted bail, not Oliver Vormawor.”. He explained.
