Sadly, Shaun Martin, a musician who won seven Grammy Awards, passed away. He won four with Kirk Franklin and three with Snarky Puppy.

On August 3, 2024, several posts uploaded on Facebook and other social media platforms by friends and insiders in the gospel music scene claimed Martin’s death.

At the age of forty-five, he passed away.

On Sunday, August 4th, 2024, Snarky Puppy revealed Shaun Martin’s passing.

On August 23, 1978, in Dallas, Texas, Shaun Martin was born. Jazz and classical music were his tutors’ specialties when he began studying the piano at the age of four.

From Sunday church attendance with his mother, he became familiar with gospel music.

DeSoto High School was where he received his initial education. He afterward studied at Weatherford College and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas.

His bachelor’s degree in applied arts and sciences from the University of North Texas was awarded.

While still in high school, Martin forged a friendship with renowned gospel artist Kirk Franklin, which marked the beginning of his path to success. His first position was choir director at Franklin.

A fellow University of North Texas alumnus, bassist Michael League, formed the jazz fusion group Snarky Puppy in 2004, which included Shaun Martin as a member.

Alongside Erykah Badu, Justin Timberlake, Michael McDonald, Snoop Dogg, and Kirk Franklin, among many other renowned performers, the group has shared the stage.
