Watch your words in political endorsements- Kwaku Manu’s warning to Celebrities

Ghanaian actor and entrepreneur Kwaku Manu took a stand, urging fellow celebrities endorsing political parties ahead of the 2024 elections to tread carefully.

Known for his candid commentary on social issues, Manu voiced concerns about the potential pitfalls of public endorsements, especially if handled without prudence.

Speaking directly to his peers, Manu warned, “Many of you are getting too involved in politics without thinking of the bigger picture.

Some of these politicians you support don’t actually care about you—they just want the influence you bring to help them win votes.” Manu’s words resonated with the challenges some Ghanaian celebrities have faced in the past after publicly supporting politicians, only to feel sidelined once campaigns concluded.

Manu highlighted the importance of being cautious with language and tone. “You think you’re supporting your candidate, but if your words stir up the wrong reactions, you might end up hurting their image instead of helping,” he explained.

Manu advised against overly aggressive or confrontational messages that could inadvertently damage the party’s image or strain relationships with other parties, pointing out that the political landscape shifts rapidly, and alliances can be unpredictable.

Taking his caution a step further, Manu didn’t hold back on what he thinks of celebrities aligning with parties for personal gain. “If you’re endorsing someone because you truly believe in them, that’s one thing,” he said.

“But if you’re only in it for your own benefit, I’m not afraid to call you out on it.” His remarks emphasized a need for genuine conviction over financial incentives or fleeting fame.

Further, Manu urged political parties to do their part in better-managing celebrity endorsements. “It’s not just up to us to be careful. Political parties need to make sure we’re working together in a way that actually benefits them in the long run,” he added, calling for structured involvement where celebrities contribute positively without compromising the party’s goals.
