WASSCE 2024 results unlikely to be released on 29 December due to funding shortfall, says WAEC

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, initially scheduled for 29 December, has been delayed due to insufficient funding from the government.

This announcement contradicts an earlier assurance by the Ministry of Education, which indicated that the results would be ready by 29 December after the government released GH₵25 million to WAEC.

The Minister of Education, Yaw Osei Adutwum, speaking to the media, expressed confidence in the ministry’s efforts, saying, “The funds have been made available, and WAEC has assured us the results will be ready by the end of December.”

However, WAEC’s Head of Public Relations, John Kapi, debunked this claim during an interview on The Big Bulletin Tuesday (24 December).

According to him, the GH₵25 million released is insufficient to complete operational processes. “The council requires an additional GH₵35 million to finalise operations and release the results. Without this, it is impossible to meet the December 29 deadline,” he said.

He further emphasised the challenges faced by the examination body, saying, “We appreciate the funds released so far, but they cover only a portion of the costs. We urge the government to address this shortfall urgently to ensure the timely release of the results.”
