Virgin Atlantic set to return to Ghana

Sources have confirmed Virgin Atlantic is in the process of searching for a General Sales Agent (GSA) in Ghana and has initiated the interview process for shortlisted candidates in Accra.

A General Sales Agent (GSA) is the designated sales representative of an airline in a specific region or country. The GSA is responsible for selling all of the airline’s products in that area, including flight tickets and cargo space.

Virgin Atlantic is majority-owned (51%) by the Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson’s parent organisation, while Delta Air Lines holds a 49% stake.

The airline’s decision to exit the Ghanaian market in 2013 was prompted by concerns over exceptionally high fuel costs, challenging economic conditions, and the lack of availability of morning arrival slots at Heathrow Airport from  Accra.

Its final flight from Accra to London departed on 23 September 2013.

While its planned full flight schedule is unknown, Virgin will compete with British Airways on the Accra-London (Heathrow) and Accra-London (Gatwick) routes.

It will also compete with other airlines for passengers travelling from Accra to various destinations in the United States of America, where Virgin has strong ties, given its partnership with Delta.
