The management of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in the Volta Region has conferred on President Akufo Addo an honorary doctorate degree on Monday (29 July) in Ho.
The conferment was done by the chairman of the university’s council, Justice Victor J M Dotse in a beautiful ceremony held at the university’s cedi auditorium.
A citation read by the registrar of the university, Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, said the president deserves the honour because he has prioritised the country’s science education, particularly STEM education, free secondary school and also helping to grow UHAS.
In 2021, President Akufo Addo cut the sod for the construction of the university’s phase two, which is the School of Midwifery and General Nursing. The contract was signed by his government and the Chinese government.
In a ceremony on Wednesday, President Akufo-Addo also commissioned the School of Midwifery and General Nursing at the university.
The president said the project which was started by late President Mills needed further push to materialise hence his efforts to make sure that phase two was successfully executed.
He highlighted the significant achievements of his administration in the healthcare sector.
The president detailed the numerous healthcare projects completed under his administration, emphasizing the construction and equipping of polyclinics, hospitals, and specialised treatment centers.
These projects have been crucial in addressing the healthcare needs of various regions and improving the overall quality of healthcare services in the country.
“We have successfully constructed and equipped ten polyclinics in the Central Region, located in Ajumaku Bisease, Gomoa Dawurampong, Biriwa, Etsii Sunkwa, Binpong Egya, Gyamera, Mankrong, Akonfude, Ekumfi Naakwa, and Gomoa Potsin,” President Akufo-Addo announced. He added that these facilities were completed and commissioned in August 2018, marking a significant step forward in regional healthcare.
