The founder of New Jerusalem Chapel (NJC), Bishop J. Y. Adu has indicated that if galamsey is properly done through structured regulations in the country, Ghana will not have to depend on International Monetary Funds (IMF) to stabilize the economy of the country.
During an interview on Accra-based Kingdom FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Bishop Adu believed that if the government puts down some measures to control the galamsey and get their share after the activities, the Chinese would not have the opportunity to invade these sites and mine recklessly without recourse to the environment.
“Ghana government has not benefited from these galamsey activities because there is no proper planning. NDC and NPP keep using the blame game and forget that foreign nationals are benefiting from these activities and destroying our water bodies as well”, he lamented.
The man of God stated that the rumour that people have destroyed cocoa farms to do galamsey is false.
Bishop Adu explained that most of the cocaa farms turned into galamsey sites were farms that produced nothing for these farms hence their decision to sell their farms to people to use as galamsey sites.
“No cocoa farmer who harvests his cocoa seeds will sell his farm to galamseyers.” He rebuffed.
He further emphasized that these lands that have been destroyed by galamsey activities can be recovered.
