Fire at the Techiman Central Market has been contained; this is according to the Ghana National Fire Service.
MyNewsGh.com earlier reported that Techiman Central Market has been razed down by ravaging fire that broke out on the night of January 12, 2025.
Although the fire service initially struggled to contain the fire, it is reported that its team, led by ADO Takyi Gabriel, contained the fire with everything fully extinguished as of 4:12 am on January 13, 2025.
Although there were no casualties recorded as a result of the fire, several wooden structures have been burnt with properties destroyed.
A report by the Ghana Fire Service on its Facebook page read “FIRE CONTAINED AT TECHIMAN MARKET*On Sunday, January 12, 2025, a fire broke out at the Techiman Market at 9:59 PM. Firefighters, led by ADO I Takyi Gabriel, arrived within a minute (10:00 PM) and worked tirelessly to confine the fire at 11:16 PM to bring it under control at 12:13 AM, and fully extinguished it at 4:12 AM on Monday, January 13, 2025 using six (6) fire appliances.
Despite challenges such as late reporting of the fire, poor access, and interference from bystanders, over 65 firefighters were mobilized to the scene to salvage nearby structures numbering over 700 and prevented further spread.Although the fire destroyed several wooden structures and metal containers, there were no casualties. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, emphasizing the need for improved safety measures and public cooperation”.
Meanwhile, addressing the media, fire officers complained about the lack of logistics for firefighting in Techiman and urged the government to, as a matter of urgency, retool the service in the area to make firefighting swift.
An investigation is currently underway to ascertain the cause of the fire.
