A District Court in Sunyani has placed travel restrictions on Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, the former Employment and Labour Relations Minister, amid his alleged involvement in the murder of Francis Frimpong, a supporter of the Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC.
Baffour-Awuah, along with his bodyguard Agyemang Duah Owusu and another suspect, Joseph Kyeremeh, appeared in court following violent disturbances during a football match on 2 February 2025.
The court, led by Judge Eric Daning, charged Baffour-Awuah and Kyeremeh with abetting murder and granted them bail set at GHC500,000 each, with specific conditions including the surrender of Baffour-Awuah’s passport.
In contrast, Owusu has been remanded in custody on murder charges.
Prosecutors highlighted evidence from a search of Owusu’s residence, revealing blood-stained clothing and a weapon.
Defence counsel argued for bail, citing the suspects’ public status and intent to cooperate with investigations.
The next court appearance is scheduled for 17 February 2025.
