Sports Roundup: Ghana’s Olympics dream ends in disqualification, but Africa makes history

The curtain has closed on the Paris Olympics, with mixed fortunes for African nations. While Ghana’s 4x100m relay team suffered a heartbreaking disqualification in the heats, Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo stormed to a historic victory in the men’s 200m, rewriting the African record books in the process.

Déjà vu for Ghana’s relay team

Ghana’s hopes for Olympic glory were dashed after their men’s 4x100m team were disqualified for a baton exchange zone violation in the heats.

This mirrored their fate at the Tokyo 2020 Games, leaving a sense of déjà vu for the athletes and Ghanaian fans. Even without the disqualification, the quartet’s time of 38.62 seconds wouldn’t have secured a place in the final.
