Dr. Kwasi Baffour Gyimah, Medical Superintendent of Mampong Hospital in the Ashanti Region, recently joined Eunice Akoto Attakora-Manu on her popular YouTube program, Asetena Pa, to share his insights on adopting healthier lifestyle habits.
Speaking on the importance of physical activity and moderation in daily routines, Dr. Gyimah offered practical advice on how Ghanaians can enhance their well-being.
“Engaging in regular to intense physical activity has incredible benefits for our overall health,” Dr. Gyimah emphasized, encouraging listeners to prioritize exercise in their daily lives. He warned against certain detrimental habits, such as late-night eating, which he said can lead to long-term health issues.
Discussing practical ways to stay active, Dr. Gyimah highlighted the benefits of brisk walking and moderate exercise. “You don’t necessarily need an intense gym regimen,” he explained, “unless, of course, you’re training to build muscle or preparing for something competitive, like Ghana’s Strongest.”
He added that exercises that raise heart rate and induce sweating, such as brisk walking, are highly beneficial. “Any activity that improves endurance and allows you to gradually exercise longer is good for you,” he advised.
When the conversation shifted to whether sex could be classified as exercise, Mansa Akoto posed a question that sparked an interesting response from Dr. Gyimah.
“It all comes down to duration,” he said thoughtfully. “Sex usually doesn’t last beyond 30 minutes, so it doesn’t qualify as a significant form of exercise. It’s not the same as an intense workout session,” he clarified, adding a touch of humor to the discussion.
The conversation took a serious turn as Dr. Gyimah addressed the topic of hypertension and its potential impact on men’s sexual health.
He explained that hypertensive individuals should be cautious about certain sexual practices, as these could aggravate their condition. “Yes, some sexual positions can put added strain on the body, particularly for those with hypertension,” he said. “Men on medication or those with high blood pressure need to be mindful of this.”
He concluded with a word of caution for men who might feel pressured to meet high expectations in the bedroom. “Men should avoid overexerting themselves just to satisfy their partners.
Those brief moments of intense activity could lead to serious health risks, including the potential for life-threatening consequences,” he warned, urging men to prioritize their health and safety over performance.
