The Communications Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has indicated that Ghana’s creative arts industry is dead.
He is of the view that the only aspect of creative arts that has some life in it is the music industry, which is even alive because artistes are investing in their craft themselves.
Sammy Gyamfi was speaking on Accra-based United Showbiz when he made this known.
“The Creative Arts Industry is dead. The only aspect of the creative arts which is thriving is the music industry and even that is thriving because of the effort put in by the musicians themselves. Apart from that concert party is dead, kyekyekule is dead,” he said.
He continued “there was a certain policy framework which allowed these things to thrive. Where are the Santos of today, where are the ODs of today? What happened to drama? We have lost a lot in terms of our creative arts. We can do better than what we are doing and it is the work of the government to put in the right measures to help the industry because we have the talents and the resources to make the industry an enviable one. However, if you have a government that does not care about its creatives, this is what will happen because they are paying lip service to the creative arts industry”.
