In a heartfelt celebration of its 30th anniversary, the Royal Ladies Ministry, the women’s wing of Royalhouse Chapel International, chose a cause close to their hearts—supporting children battling cancer.
The church group marked the milestone with a generous donation at the paediatric oncology unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
As part of their anniversary celebrations under the theme, “Three Decades of Empowering Women and Transforming Lives,” the Royal Ladies Ministry donated GHC 100,000 to the unit.
In addition to this, they donated food items, bibles, cash gifts, and other essentials to the families of young cancer patients.
The highlight of the occasion was a moving speech by Rita Korankye Ankrah, the First Lady of Royalhouse Chapel International and President General of the Royal Ladies Ministry.
Speaking with palpable emotion, she emphasised the significance of the RL3D Childhood Cancer Project, which had been planned as one of the key initiatives for the anniversary.
“Every year, as a group within Royalhouse Chapel, we do donations across the nation and this year we chose the childhood cancer project,” Korankye Ankrah said.
“We decided that we won’t sit in our comfort zones, enjoy and leave the babies and young children with cancer, so as part of our 30th anniversary, we came to celebrate with the babies who, out of no fault of theirs, are living with cancer.”
She highlighted the urgent need for ongoing support, stressing that while the donations would provide immediate relief, a sustained fund was crucial for ensuring access to vital medications and treatments for these young patients.
Korankye Ankrah, affectionately known as Mama Rita, also expressed her gratitude to the church’s Apostle General, Sam Korankye Ankrah, for his unwavering support in realising this vision.
Dr. Frank Owusu Sekyere, the acting CEO of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, warmly welcomed the donation and expressed hope that other institutions would be inspired to follow suit.
“It is always a delight when people think about children. We can’t do it all when it comes to health; it must be a shared responsibility,” he noted. “I think it is a very laudable idea, and we will want other corporate and social groups to emulate this kind gesture.”
Kate Baidoo, whose five-year-old son is currently undergoing treatment, thanked the group for their kind gesture.
Paediatric oncologist Dr. Ernestina Schandorf also conveyed her appreciation, speaking on behalf of the hospital staff and the families.
She assured the Royal Ladies Ministry that the items would be used to enhance the quality of care provided to the young patients.
