Renowned Surgeon and Former Council of State Member Dr Edward N. Gyader has died

Renowned Medical Surgeon and a former Council of State Member from the Upper West Region, Dr Edward N. Gyader has died, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed.

According to close family sources, the seasoned Medical Doctor and former Dean of the Deanat University for Development Studies Medical School died on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

Details of funeral arrangements will be announced later according to famiy sources.

About Dr Gyader

Dr Edward Gyader, was born at Nandom in the Upper West Region and attended Tamale Secondary School.

He qualified as a doctor at the University of Bologna and later as a Surgeon at the University of Padova between 1966 and 1977.

He returned to Ghana in 1978 and was appointed Senior Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health and posted to Jirapa Hospital as Medical Superintendent and Surgeon in Charge. He spent all his professional practice, in Jirapa and Wa., with a short spell in Burkina Faso. On many occasions he was left as the only doctor and surgeon in the Wa Regional Hospital and sometimes in the entire Upper West Region.

His contribution to the health sector during this period includes holding administrative positions in the hospitals he worked in as well as practising as a surgeon.

He also served on the Central Council of the Ghana Red Cross Society, chaired the Upper West Regional Consultative Council; was the Presiding Member of the Lawra District Assembly (1989 — 1992) and member of the 1991/2 Consultative Assembly which drafted the current constitution of Ghana. He served Executive Council of the Association from 1997-2001 and as the Upper West Divisional Chairman from 1995-2003. During these eight years, he gave of his time, experience and wisdom to the advancement of the Association.

From 1995 to 2000 he also served on the Medical and Dental Council.  He later served as a Member of the Council of State and the Dean of the Medical School of the UDS before retiring permanently.
