The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has announced that the provisional voter register is now more accurate than the version exhibited and provided to political parties in August 2024.
Speaking at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday (1 October), Mensa said the EC had dedicated the past few weeks to addressing discrepancies in the register.
“As a Commission, we have devoted the last few weeks to correct the discrepancies and you will find that the provisional voter register today is different and more accurate than what was exhibited and provided to the parties in August 2024,” she said.
Mensa outlined the EC’s rigorous four-step process for cleaning the provisional voter register, explaining that voters who identified errors in their details during the exhibition period were able to rectify them at district offices.
Additionally, over 40,000 exhibition centre officers scrutinised the register and reported discrepancies for correction through the EC’s Information Technology Team (ITT).
“Our field staff, mainly our district officers and our regional officers, relied also on the registered viewer, that is, the soft copy of the register on their machines, to scrutinise the register and correct discrepancies,” she added.
The EC’s thorough approach, she noted, has significantly improved the accuracy of the register, ensuring it is now free from earlier discrepancies.
