The police have arrested 89 individuals have been arrested across the country for various election-related offences across the country.
According to the police, 40 of the 89 suspects are directly linked to the destruction and looting of state properties.
In a press briefing on Monday (9 December), director of public affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi said, “89 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with various offences; 40 of these suspects are directly connected to acts of vandalism, looting, and destruction of property. All these suspects are in custody and will be taken through the due process of the law.
“We would like to use this opportunity to caution persons to desist from such acts of violence, as the perpetrators will be arrested and brought to face justice,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi added.
She also stated that the police have implemented some security measures to curb further chaos and are prepared to deploy additional mechanisms to put a stop to the post-election disturbances.
Unidentified thugs have invaded the national head office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) at Kanda in Accra, as well as the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly in Accra.
