Black Stars winger Joseph Paintsil has expressed his comfort in playing as a false number 9, following his impressive performance in Los Angeles Galaxy's 3-2 victory over Portland Timbers.

In a post-match press conference, Paintsil stated that the role, although sometimes challenging due to limited ball possession, is not difficult for him.

"It’s not a difficult role. It’s sometimes annoying because sometimes you don’t get a lot of balls. You need to do some runs…making the run also helps to create some spaces," he said.

"This is not my first time playing in that position, I did that when I was in Genk against Club Brugge and also a couple of games. I just need to do whatever I need to do in whatever position I’m being used to help my team," he added.

The 26-year-old winger demonstrated his versatility and dynamic skills throughout the match, contributing a goal and two assists to LA Galaxy's win. His season tally now stands at eight goals and seven assists in 22 appearances within the MLS Western Conference.

Paintsil's impact was immediate, setting up Gabriel Pec for LA Galaxy's opening goal in the 38th minute. His partnership with Pec continued to flourish in the second half, as he assisted former Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig in the 48th minute to extend their lead.

Despite Portland Timbers' efforts to close the gap, with goals from Jonathan Rodriguez and Santiago Moreno, Paintsil's eighth goal of the season secured LA Galaxy's two-goal cushion and ultimately the victory.

The win consolidates LA Galaxy's position at the top of the MLS standings, with 49 points after match week 26.
