Patricia Kyeremaa exits 2024 Paris Paralympics in Round of 16

Ghanaian para-athlete Patricia Kyeremaa’s debut at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games ended in the Round of 16 on Saturday (31 August).

Competing in the women’s K44 +65kg category at the Grand Palais in Paris, Kyeremaa faced a formidable opponent in Greece’s Eleni Papastamatopoulou.

The match saw Papastamatopoulou take a commanding lead, scoring 14 points before Kyeremaa, 31, registered her first two points.

Despite a spirited comeback that saw her add four more points, Kyeremaa was ultimately defeated, with the final score standing at 7-24.

This marked Kyeremaa’s first appearance at the Paralympic Games. Under the guidance of coach George Ablometi, she has rapidly gained recognition in the sport.

In 2022, Kyeremaa was honoured by the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) and Maxi-Lane Taekwondo Academy for her contributions to the promotion of taekwondo in Ghana.

Britain’s Amy Truesdale would secure the gold medal after defeating Guljonoy Naimova from Uzbekistan in the final on Saturday (31 September), while Morocco’s Rajae Akermach would pick up the bronze after defeating Brazilian Débora Menezes.
