Former Chief of Staff Kwadwo Mpiani has indicated that he knew the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would lose the 2024 election.

The statesman said he spoke to several party folks about it, but they ignored him.

He believes that the NPP’s failure has been long coming, blaming its genesis on the decision to remove the political party’s elected chairman and general secretary.

To him, this gave the party and its control to one man, with every other person becoming a sycophant because they watched on as things turned out for the worse.

“Unfortunately for the party and government, when you express concerns, you become an outcast because they think you don’t like the president or the government; that is why you’re behaving that way.

I have been in politics for quite some time, and if I see something that is going wrong, I must be able to speak up. Our party’s problem started at the time we removed our party chairman and general secretary. Mr. Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong. Because when we did that, we gave the party to one man to do whatever he wanted to do with the party, and people were scared to speak up.

From there, we went to the government. Government with executive powers more powerful than a party leader, so one would have thought that at that stage one would have thought that we would sit up to say, Let’s be careful of what we do, but it got to a stage where almost like we became sycophants, knowing things were not going well, but we allowed things to go on.

For instance, I knew we were not going to be successful in the election, and I told some colleagues, but they didn’t want to listen to me, and I said maybe we’ve not put our ears to the ground to hear what people were saying and that people were very angry with us,” he told Randy Abbey on Good Morning Ghana.
