The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said that if voted into power, he will not legalize LGBTQ.
During one of his campaign tours in Awutu Senya in the Central Region, Dr Bawumia assured the gathered crowd which included the chiefs of the community that if voted into power he would never legalize LGBT.
According to him, the practice of the LGBTQ is not a biblical or a Quran-accepted practice. He said Christians, Muslims and Traditional believers frown on the practice hence he will not legalize it when voted into power.
He said; “Nananom, you see this new practice by some youths of this country where a man wants to get married to his fellow man and women also want to marry their fellow woman, it will never be allowed under my government.”
“We won’t legalize it in Ghana. It is not a practice supported by the Qur’an or the Holy Bible, nor is it in our culture or tradition. We will stand firm. We don’t care about the consequences, we won’t legalize it. If we legalize it, we will destroy this country.”
It would be recalled that during Eidul-Fitr prayers at the Kumasi Central Mosque in the Ashanti Region in April this year, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his steadfast stance against LGBTQ activities, affirming that such practices would not be tolerated under his leadership.
“First of all, it is important to note that our cultural and societal norms and values as Ghanaians frown on the practice of homosexuality,” Dr. Bawumia said.
“Furthermore, as a Muslim, my view on this matter aligns with the position of my religious faith. The Holy Quran is replete with verses frowning on LGBTQ acts, including same-sex marriages. My faith is therefore very strictly against the practice of homosexuality, no “ifs” or “buts”. No shades of grey.”
“Therefore, I personally cannot support that which my religion, and indeed, all the major religions in Ghana clearly and unequivocably forbid. All the major religious traditions in Ghana (Christianity and Islam) are opposed to this practice and I stand opposed to it now and I will stand opposed to it as President, Insha Allah.” He stated.
