Animation studio Mills Media has officially announced the release of its anticipated animation series ‘The Guardians: The Chosen Ones’, a superhero series that highlights Ghana’s rich folklore and heritage through compelling storytelling.
The series centres around four friends chosen by the gods to become superheroes tasked with protecting their city from various threats, including crime and climate change, while serving as symbols of hope.
With a storyline that resonates on both local and universal levels, ‘The Guardians: The Chosen Ones’ aims to tackle pressing issues in a way that feels accessible, inspiring, and educational, especially for the youth.
Speaking at the launch of the show, the CEO of Mills Media, Jesse Sunkwa-Mills, emphasised the importance of inclusivity in the project.
“We want young people to see themselves reflected in these characters, to feel empowered and encouraged, not limited by any perceived incapabilities,” he stated.
On his part, the President of the Animators Association of Ghana (AAGh), Samuel Quartey, expressing excitement for Ghana making remarkable strikes in the animation market in recent years, also charged industry players to keep creating, collaborating, and championing change to foster a community of animation enthusiasts and to attract investors and distributors.
The series will premiere on Saturday, 28 December 2024, at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra, with plans to expand screenings to other parts of the country, furthering the reach of Ghanaian animation.
