According to a report by Asaase Radio, aggrieved youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ahafo Ano South West constituency of the Ashanti Region have turned their fury against their party.
On Sunday afternoon, tensions boiled over in Mankranso, the district capital, as the party’s office became the target of their wrath.
The protest saw a television, chairs, and other party assets engulfed in flames, leaving a trail of destruction that speaks to the simmering frustrations among party supporters.
The youth, visibly enraged, accuse the NDC leadership of betraying their parliamentary candidate, Sedik Abubakar, in what they believe was a stolen victory.
“We know Sedik won, but the leadership handed the seat to the NPP on a silver platter,” one protester reportedly exclaimed, as others echoed sentiments of distrust and disillusionment.
Their grievances stem from the Electoral Commission’s declaration of the NPP’s Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah as the winner of the parliamentary race.
In a recount conducted on December 21, 2024, Dapaah was confirmed to have secured 16,680 votes, narrowly defeating Abubakar, who trailed with 16,540 votes—a razor-thin margin of just 140 votes.
The protesters, however, are not buying the results. Accusing the NDC leadership at all levels of negligence and conspiracy, they have threatened dire consequences for any party officials who dare to step foot in the constituency.
