My $133k Dubai Houses  is nothing compared to Trassaco houses owned by NPP bigwigs – Asaga

National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nabdam Moses Asaga, who has been alleged to have used “dirty money” to acquire a house in Dubai, has hit back at his critics who believe that after his long service in the private and public sectors, he cannot legitimately buy a house in Dubai worth $133,000 as engaging in political machinations.

He dismissed the report imputing wrongdoing to his acquisition of the property in Dubai as baseless, wondering why anyone can doubt his ability to have a property worth a paltry $133, 000.

For him, properties in Ghana occupied mostly by New Patriotic Party(NPP) functionaries are much costlier than the house he has legally and rightfully acquired in Dubai.

A think tank, the Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), had reported in May that Dubai has apparently become a haven for illicit money and a destination for laundered money. In the report, Moses Asaga is reported to one of the politically exposed persons who owns a house in Dubai.

“I thought I had done something criminal and corrupt worth investigating. $133, 000? Shouldn’t I be able to own such an investment? What are the prices of Trassaco properties?  $1m- $3m! Who are staying there? Is it not politicians and majority NPP functionaries? Has the OCCRP gone to put a story on them? This is a political machination,” he said in an interview with Citi News.

Mr Asaga, a respected Financial Economist, went to great lengths to explain that $133,000 is not beyond his reach and that he had done nothing wrong.

“So, they think for my 30-year working life I should not have an investment of that paltry amount?  Before politics, I worked with Ecobank, and GNPC and was Deputy Minister of Finance, Minister for Employment, and CEO of NPA. I could not afford an investment of $133,000 for a student one-bedroom apartment. What is the crime and corruption involved in this?” He quizzed.

He added that apartments in Ghana worth more than his property in Dubai are being occupied by NPP appointees and others.

“In Ghana, new apartments are being sold for $200,000 plus, and Trassaco it’s $1m–$5m [for an apartment]. Who stays in them? Is not bankers, CEOs of GNPC, COCOBOD, BOST, and politicians?” he wondered.

Moses Asaga was emphatic that the report is a mere political machination, lacks merit and ought to be disregarded.
