MTN Ghana has donated GHC10,000 to the king and overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II, in support of this year’s Damba festival celebration in Nalerigu in the North-East Region.
To further enrich the festivities, MTN Ghana has also provided assorted drinks, Packs of bottled water, and 1,000 call credits for the celebration.
The Nayiri Damba festival is an annual gathering of paramount chiefs, divisional chiefs and other traditional rulers from the Mamprugu Traditional Area, converging at the ancient Nayiri palace in Nalerigu to celebrate heritage, unity and tradition.
At the donation ceremony, Collins Adjei, MTN Sales Manager for the five Northern Regions, emphasised the company’s dedication to supporting festivals nationwide.
“Festival is among the key things that people consider important. So as our part of support to the communities every year, we support festivals across the country and so coming here today is just in relation to making sure that as the people of Mamprugu area celebrate the festival, we come here to support,” he stated.
Adjei also announced plans to establish an MTN regional office in Nalerigu next year, enhancing accessibility for the region’s residents.
“We have planned that by next year we should be able to give the North East Region a Regional office in Nalerigu,” Collins announced.
Abdulai Mohammed, deputy secretary to the Nayiri, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Overlord, thanking MTN management for their generous gesture.
“It is a moment for us to come together to reflect on our roots and look forward to the future of greater collaboration and development.”
“Thank you all and may God Almighty continue to bless you, bless Mamprugu and bless Ghana as a whole,” the Nayiri thanked the company for the generous donation.
