Dr Dominic Ayine, Former Deputy Attorney General and Member of Parliament of Bolaga East has described the actions of the NPP in declaring seats vacant as double standards.
During an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues, Dr Dominic Ayine stated that the NPP engineered the process that led to declaring seats vacant in parliament due to the 2020 incident.
“Part of the problems we have had in this country with our democracy is what I call the NPP exceptionalism. They always want to be an exception. They are the ones who engineered the process leading to the removal or the declaration of seats vacant as far as Fomena was concerned. But they want to make a u-turn this time around.” He argued.
According to Dr Ayine, he believes the ruling of the Supreme Court against the speaker was wrong, citing some of the estranged members of the NPP party who are currently campaigning against the party after they filed as independent candidates.
Dr Ayine stated that these parliamentarians have conducted themselves in a way that violates the constitution of the country.
“Under the NPP’s own constitution, immediately you file as an individual candidate, you lose your membership of the party. So Cynthia Morrison is no longer a member of the ruling party. What business does she have sitting at that side and voting with them”. He asked.
