The Kasa road safety campaign began on Saturday (20 July) at the Madina Trotro Station in Accra in the Greater Accra Region.
This campaign aims to empower passengers to speak up against reckless driving, ensuring safer journeys for everyone.
The campaign sought to encourage trotro owners and drivers to keep stickers in their vehicles as the group distributed a variety of gifts, including fuel coupons, car batteries, wiper blades and more. These incentives are a token of appreciation for their commitment to road safety.
The dedicated volunteers played a crucial role in this event. With enthusiasm and a shared goal of making roads safer, they meticulously pasted stickers in trotros, engaging with drivers and passengers.
The group aims to paste 1,000 stickers on trotros by the end of August 2024.
Speaking to Asaase News, team leader Akosua Afriyie said the target is part of a broader vision to scale up the campaign beyond the Greater Accra Region by the end of the first year and eventually reach the entire country within five years.
“Our mission is ambitious, but with the support of our partners and the community, we are confident in our ability to achieve it.” She added.
Akosua Afriyie noted that the positive reception from both drivers and passengers at the Madina Trotro Station was truly heartwarming.
She said many drivers expressed their appreciation for the campaign, recognising the importance of road safety.
“Passengers, too, embraced the initiative, understanding that their voices can make a significant difference in promoting safe driving practices,” she added.
The campaign is supported by esteemed partners, including the National Road Safety Authority, D-Prize, IREX, the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, and TroTro Diaries.
“Their support and collaboration are instrumental in driving the success of Kasa for Safety.” Afriyie stated.
