Jean Mensa is becoming incorrigible – Abraham Amaliba

The Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba, has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) and its Chairperson, Jean Mensa, calling her “incorrigible” after she rejected the parliamentary results of nine constituencies.

During a panel discussion on TV3’s New Day, Amaliba asserted that the Electoral Commission becomes irrelevant once results are declared, and anyone dissatisfied with the results should seek recourse through the courts.

He emphasized that Jean Mensah’s actions were becoming increasingly difficult to justify, stating, “Jean Mensah is becoming incorrigible because she refuses to change.

She behaves like a leopard that cannot change its spots.”

Amaliba further questioned Mensah’s authority, asking, “Under what law did Jean Mensah hold a press conference to announce that she would not uphold results that had been collated and declared?”

He argued that the EC Chairperson has no right to unilaterally reject the results, as the laws governing the electoral process are clear and must be followed.

In the early hours of the previous day, the Electoral Commission announced its decision to disregard the parliamentary election results in nine constituencies following the December 7, 2024, general elections.

The affected constituencies include Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Dome-Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South. At a news conference held at the Commission’s headquarters in Accra, EC Chairperson Jean Mensah explained that the collation of results in these constituencies had been disrupted by the supporters of some political parties, making the process incomplete.
