2021 Ghana U20 Africa Cup of Nations winning-coach, Abdul Karim Zito, has revealed why he did not apply for the Black Stars coaching position when it became vacant in January 2024.The experienced tactician cited his desire to shield Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku from unnecessary criticism as his main reason.Zito emphasized his deep respect for Okraku and denied that their relationship influenced his chances for the role."I've never been considered for the Black Stars role because Kurt is the president, but I'm happy. I'm okay with it," he told Joy Sports in an interview.“People don't really know Kurt. Let me tell you something—how he treats me is the same way he treats other coaches when it comes to the job. People think I get preferential treatment. No, I don't," he revealed.The Black Stars job ended up on the hands of Otto Addo who returned for a second stint in March 2024 after coaching the team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
