Industry pushback led to cancellation of Gov’t studio plans – Okraku Mantey.

Deputy Minister for Tourism and Creative Arts, Mark Okraku Mantey has defended the government’s failure to build recording studios to help artistes record easily and at very affordable rates.

According to him, the initiative was fought against by industry players who argued that they already had existing studios and did not need studios being built by government.

Mark Okraku Mantey was speaking on Accra-based TV3 when he made this known.

He said, “Because of causing financial loss to the state, we decided to play it safe. The button line is that if the industry shows interest that they’ve changed their minds that we should build why not?

They rejected it and said we should share the money among them because they already have studios which were doing well,” he said.

Adding further that, “You can quote me again, Nacee a few weeks ago was on Hitz FM, he went to Peace FM and he said that at the time he supported it, but now he feels we don’t need it. Nacee said it”.

The New Patriotic Party while seeking a second term in office promised to build studios to allow easy recording for artistes in the country. The studios were expected to be built in Takoradi, Accra, Tema and Kumasi.
