Apologize for linking stammerers with dishonesty – CCPWDs to Mahama

The Coalition of Concerned Persons with Disabilities have expressed their disappointment in the former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama.

According to the Coalition, John Dramani Mahama’s linkage of stammering to dishonesty does not allow for inclusivity.

“Linking stammering with dishonesty perpetuates harmful stereotypes and reinforces stigma, which does not promote inclusivity. Ghana has made considerable strides in promoting inclusivity and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities.

We believe that public figures, especially those with the influence of former President Mahama, have a responsibility to uphold and further these efforts by promoting understanding and empathy, not by making disparaging comments,” a statement from the Coalition said.

To them, John Mahama should have used the time denigrating them to rather tell them the kind of policies he has to make their lives better.

They are therefore demanding an apology from the National Democratic Congress’ flagbearer.

It will be remembered that John Dramani Mahama while addressing a charged crowd at a mini rally in Accra, indicated that people who can speak fluently become stammerers only when they are lying.

He was referring to the posturing of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who engaged with the Ghanaian media
