Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister-designate for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, has vowed to address the ongoing payment delays affecting caterers under the government’s school feeding program.
Her commitment comes as concerns grow over unpaid arrears and the impact on the quality of meals provided to schoolchildren.
During her vetting by the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Naa Momo assured Ghanaians that resolving these challenges would be a top priority under her leadership.
“Our manifesto clearly outlines our goal to address the bottlenecks in school feeding and capitation grants. We even aim to extend the program to private schools,” she stated during her appearance.
Naa Momo also highlighted the current payment situation, revealing that while 40 days of payments have been made, 31 days remain in arrears. She expressed her determination to resolve this issue swiftly.
“From my checks, about 40 days of payments have been made, but 31 days remain in arrears. This is something I am committed to resolving,” she said.
In addition to tackling the financial challenges, Naa Momo stressed the importance of quality in the meals provided. She outlined her plan to engage stakeholders in open dialogue, ensuring that sustainable solutions are found for the program’s long-term success.
“One of my strengths is fostering dialogue with all involved to achieve sustainable outcomes. With payments already initiated, I am confident that the president is committed to not only maintaining the program but also ensuring the quality of food is upheld,” she affirmed.
Her pledge to address both the financial and quality concerns reflects her determination to improve the program, benefiting schoolchildren and caterers alike.
