If Akufo-Addo had met expectations, Bawumia might have won – Bright Kankam Boadu

In the latest episode of Asetena Pa, host Akoto Mansa shifted from her usual topics to dive into the political dynamics following the 2024 elections.

Her guest, Bright Kankam Boadu, a presenter from Pure FM, offered a detailed analysis of the electoral results that saw John Dramani Mahama and the NDC claim a significant victory.

Boadu shared his initial reaction to the outcome, revealing that while he wasn’t shocked by the NPP’s defeat, the scale of the loss took him by surprise.

He likened the situation to the US elections, where economic factors were pivotal in determining the result. Boadu emphasized that despite the NPP’s attempts to spotlight positive developments, their downfall ultimately stemmed from the country’s struggling economy.

“The state of the economy plays a huge role in elections,” Boadu noted. “It can either strengthen the ruling party or lead to its downfall, as we’ve seen in past elections.

“Look at the US; economic conditions were decisive in Trump’s narrow win over Kamala Harris. The same can be said for what happened in Ghana.”

Boadu went on to criticize outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo, suggesting that his demeanour and decisions negatively impacted Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s chances.

He argued that if Akufo-Addo had acted as though he was seeking re-election and met public expectations, Bawumia could have connected more effectively with the electorate.

“The people wanted leadership that spoke to their concerns, not just promises,” Boadu remarked.

“If the President had shown that level of urgency, Bawumia’s message could have resonated better with the voters.”
