Ghanaian model and activist GlennSamm has opened up about his harrowing experience at the Teshie Police Station, shedding light on the harsh conditions he faced during his time in custody.
In an interview on Hitz FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, GlennSamm recounted the ordeal that unfolded after his arrest, which left him physically and emotionally drained.
He described the cell at the station as overcrowded and lacking basic ventilation. “There were about 27 of us crammed into a tiny cell. It was so crowded that the only way to get fresh air was by sticking your head into a small space,” he explained. The lack of room to even sit down forced him to stand for an entire day, leading to a painful muscle pull.
Inmates, according to GlennSamm, were expected to pay GH¢300 upon entry, a sum that was supposedly used to buy basic necessities like soap and toiletries. Even after paying the fee, he still couldn’t access basic hygiene, noting that he wasn’t able to bathe throughout his stay. “The heat in the cell was unbearable, and the food was terrible,” he added, explaining that he went without food for 48 hours due to both a lack of funds and his family being unaware of his whereabouts.
The model’s encounter with the legal system was equally disheartening. “They gave the lawyers just five minutes,” he noted, a statement reflecting the rushed process he felt he underwent. By the end of his ordeal, the prosecutor made it clear that the authorities were “tired” of dealing with their case, ultimately sentencing them to serve two weeks in custody.
