This isn’t democracy – Afenyo-Markin Slams NDC over election tactics

Outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Majority Leader in Parliament, Hon Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for allegedly delaying the electoral process following the 2024 general elections.

Making his grievances known in an interview with Joy News, Afenyo-Markin accused the opposition party of frustrating efforts to conclude the process despite having compiled their own results.

“It’s before them, and they’re just frustrating the process, delaying the process. They’ve compiled; they know they’ve lost,” he alleged.

Afenyo-Markin explained that the NDC’s conduct during the collation process raised questions about their commitment to democratic principles.

“In their own collated figures, they know they’ve lost. And now they are saying they cannot find their pink sheets, so they want to rely on the EC’s pink sheets,” he stated.

Pink sheets, which serve as the official record of votes tallied at polling stations, have been a critical part of election transparency in Ghana.

The NPP leader, however, suggested that the NDC’s reported inability to produce their pink sheets was a deliberate tactic to cast doubt on the results.

“When a figure is mentioned, they now go tracing, pretending they don’t have the pink sheets, and yet they have compiled their results,” he said.

“I think the NDC should stop this. It won’t help us. This is not democracy.”
