English-born Ghanaian forward Maleace Asamoah has expressed his excitement after signing with Wigan Athletic.

Speaking about his decision, Asamoah revealed his enthusiasm for joining the club, citing its prestigious history and the potential for personal growth under the guidance of the team's manager.

“I was excited when I got the call because I know Wigan is a prestigious club with a lot of history. I feel like it’s a great fit for me," he told Wigan media.

“With the Gaffer being a winger himself, it was a no-brainer to come because I feel like I’ll progress really well here.

“I am a really exciting player, and I like to get the crowd off their feet and entertain them. Every single week, I play for the badge. I’ll do everything for my teammates and the three points."

The deal, announced on Friday, August 30, 2024, is subject to EFL and FA approval, with Asamoah committing to a three-year contract at the Brick Community Stadium.

The 21-year-old began his career at Reading's Academy before stints in Greece with Kalamata and Olympiacos Volos. He then joined non-league side New Salamis FC, where his impressive form attracted attention from several clubs. Asamoah signed for Fleetwood Town in 2023, making his professional debut against Carlisle United and featuring in eight more games before a successful loan spell at Waterford in the League of Ireland.

During his time at Waterford, Asamoah scored six goals and provided four assists in 17 appearances, becoming a fan favorite. His versatility allowed him to play on both flanks and as a striker.

Wigan will hope Asamoah's electric form continues as they look to strengthen their forward line.
