He’s Self-Centered and Opportunistic – A Plus Opens Up on Rift with Nana Addo

Kwame A Plus, the elected Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has made some candid remarks about his fallout with President Nana Akufo-Addo, accusing the president of being an opportunist and self-centred.

During an interview on TV3’s Ghana Decides with Johnnie Hughes, A Plus revealed the circumstances behind his departure from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and his strained relationship with the sitting president.

A Plus recounted that after Nana Akufo-Addo’s victory in the 2016 elections, he, along with some of the president’s loyal supporters, began to distance themselves from the administration due to frustrations with the behaviour of some of Akufo-Addo’s appointees.

Despite their attempts to address the issues with the president, A Plus claims that Akufo-Addo ignored their concerns, leading to a fallout.

“President Akufo-Addo is an opportunist and self-centred,” A Plus asserted. “When some of his appointees were misbehaving and we tried to call them to order, he ignored us.

That’s when the rift began. Since then, we haven’t spoken.”

A Plus further revealed that the only reason the president eventually reached out to him was because of the 2020 elections.

“Kennedy Agyapong was the one who made me speak to the president on the phone after years of silence,” he explained. “But for him, the president would never have reached out to me.”

The MP-elect also shared that Akufo-Addo called him two weeks before the 2022 elections, seeking support as he faced growing concerns about his re-election.

However, A Plus noted that after that, the president never contacted him again. “But I wasn’t bothered,” he added, highlighting his indifference to the lack of communication.
