Harry Stacey bows out of 100m freestyle at Paris Olympics

Ghanaian swimmer Harry Stacey has been eliminated from the men’s 100m freestyle at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The 24-year-old’s journey in the French capital ended on Tuesday (30 July) after he clocked a time of 51.12 seconds in the heats. The result was not enough to secure him a coveted top-16 spot and a place in the semifinals.

Stacey finished seventh in heat four, behind Cypriot Nikolas Antoniou (50.35 seconds) and ahead of bottom-placed Sri Lankan Kyle Abeysinghe (51.42 seconds).

The Accra-born athlete had qualified for the Games through one of Ghana’s two wildcard places. His compatriot, Joselle Mensah, is set to compete in the women’s 50m freestyle on Saturday (3 August).

Stacey, Ghana’s leading male swimmer according to the World Aquatics Point Table, will now turn his attention to future competitions.
