The overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has proposed to the King of the Mamprugu Kingdom and the King of the Dagbon Kingdom to have an annual conference in Northern Ghana that will focus on the collective development of the North.
Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I said the move would foster peace, unity and development to strive in the northern part of Ghana.
The Gonjaland king emphasised that the annual conference would unite the kings and their subjects, which would go a long way towards resolving the long-standing land boundary disputes in some parts of the North.
The Yagbonwura made this passionate proposal to the Ya-Naa on his visit to his palace at Yendi in June this year and rehashed the proposal to the Nayiri on a similar historic visit to his palace in Nalerigu in the North East Region on Sunday (28 July 2024).
“Just as I did on my visit to Dagbon, I propose that there is the need to establish an annual conference of kings and chiefs in Northern Ghana focused on the collective development of the North,” Yagbonwura said.
The annual conference is expected to be rotational, thereby, bringing the people of the north together under one umbrella.
The move is also expected to help resolve the chieftaincy and land boundary disputes in the northern part of the country.
Meanwhile, the Yagbonwura has commended the Nayiri for the brotherhood love shown him during his enskinment and coronation by sending a powerful delegation to Gonjaland.
“Let me once again express profound gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the people of the great Gonja Kingdom.”
“My speech would not be conclusive if I didn’t express my appreciation to Nayiri for sending a powerful delegation to my enskinment and coronation,” Yagbonwura said, showing gratitude to the Nayiri.
