Maradona Adjei Yeboah know popularly as Guru has disclosed plans to petition the Student Representative Council Judiciary board over his disqualification.
Reports were rife in the local media that Guru after vetting was disqualified by the Committee.
The rapper according to the committee report is not a resident of any hall; a breach of Article 30 of the UG SRC constitution which stipulates that for an individual to contest for SRC Presidency, he needs to qualify as a JCR executive.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Univers, head of Guru’s campaign team, Andy Otchere Asante, Andy Dot Com said the disqualification is not justified.
“Guru is fully qualified to contest in the UGSRC elections. He has the right to vote and to be voted for. Disqualifying him solely based on his non-residential status is unjustified. There’s an incumbent executive who was non-resident when he contested last year, so what’s different now? This seems like a deliberate move against Guru. We have handed it over to our legal team to explore legal action,” he said.
He added that the disqualification hasn’t had an adverse impact on their campaign as they are focused on the election.
“The disqualification hasn’t affected us, and we’re not surprised either. We knew they started scheming against him long before he even filed to contest. This is just the culmination of their plan,” he remarked.
