KT Hammond, one of Ghana’s most enduring political figures, has brought his illustrious parliamentary journey to a close, marking the end of over two decades of service as the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa.
The veteran politician who has been in parliament since 2001, shared his reflections in the wake of his party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, signaling a poignant moment in his career.
In a trending video, KT Hammond expressed his emotions, blending regret with gratitude. “I feel sorry for Ghanaians because I am exiting power.
“I have been thinking about it so hard,” he admitted his words resonating with the weight of his departure and the impact it may have on his constituents.
Hammond’s journey as an MP, which began after he won the Adansi Asokwa seat in the 2000 elections, ended following a narrow defeat to Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani of the National Democratic Congress.
Hammond garnered 13,275 votes, while Dorani edged ahead with 14,229, securing a victory that has ushered in a new chapter for the constituency.
For many, Hammond’s tenure has been defined by his charisma, boldness in parliamentary debates, and willingness to speak his mind, often drawing both admiration and criticism.
Hammond became a member of parliament in January 2001 after emerging winner in the General Election on December 7 2000.
He has since then had a run of five consecutive terms in office. He was the MP for the Adansi-Asokwa constituency.
He was elected as the member of parliament for this constituency in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh parliaments of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
